Steve Yzerman moves on...

Steve Yzerman is the new General Manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. It's great that the team has his guidance, yet it's also sad. A couple of days ago on NHL Live! A caller mentioned how when he heard the news, his eyes teared up. The caller was living in Tampa, but is originally from Detroit. It was nice hearing someone express my same emotions...

When I first heard the news, I had the same reaction. Stevie Y has always been a Detroit Red Wing, his entire professional hockey career. He's so embedded within the region, that he's almost like a friend to everyone. His reaction to Wings' losses and wins, his from-the-heart comments, and his unwavering determination were always so welcoming to see. He has always been such a class act. No temper tantrums, no intentional hurting of others. He expressed himself through his hard work and skill. His leadership took the team from the cellar to a Stanley Cup Championship that ended a 44-year draught. He would remain calm and steadfast while others would lose their temper. He was reliable. And, now....he's gone from the franchise. He's no longer a Detroit Red Wing. :(

My double-edged reaction comes from my living in Tampa at the time their franchise started. It was exciting to see the team started. It was cool watching them win the Stanley Cup. It has not been fun seeing their decline. What a shame. Now, though...
with Steve Yzerman involved with the Tampa Bay Lightning, the team can only get better.

A new chapter has begun.
