Wings Advance to Semi-Finals!

My beloved Detroit Red Wings kicked some butt last night by beating the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 7 of the series. The final score...6-1. Finally, after all this time, it was the Wings I have been accustomed to watching. It was like watching the waking of a giant. How nice....:)

The Phoenix Coyotes were phenomenal throughout this 2009-2010. Considering they didn't know what was going to happen with the team when the season truly is a "Cinderella story". I was rooting for the Coyotes each time they played (unless they played the Wings). They were so much fun to watch. Dave Tibbett did a fantastic job of coaching the team. Just great...It was sad to see them lose, but great to see the Wings win. :)

Anyways, it's the Red Wings V San Jose Sharks in the semi-finals. Can't wait. The Sharks have been a fun team to watch this entire year. I'm sure the series will be a GREAT ONE!!

Why Playoff Hockey ROCKS!!

A hockey stick gets caught between a head visor and helmet...

A hockey stick gets caught in the skate of a goaltender...

A hockey stick gets caught in the skate of a defenseman...

Six players strong rush towards the net, in a race which determines the puck's destiny...

A player, with a broken nose, wears a full face mask instead of sitting out...

A player receives a full body check and starts a full-team retaliatory assault...

The action is so fast-paced, the play-by-play announcer praises God for a break in the action. You hear a deep exhale as he breathlessly states this...

These are just a few reasons why hockey fans love playoff hockey and look forward to this time of the year so much.

Playoff hockey is here and ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!

While watching Vancouver Canucks games, I have seen these green men who, for the life of me, I couldn't figure out. The first time I saw them, I thought I was seeing things. I wasn't taking mind-altering drugs, either. The second time I saw them, I was befuddled. What the blazes were they? What was going on?

Then, while watching NHL Live! (on the NHL Network), EJ Hradek and Don LaGreca answered my questions. They discussed the men and provided me with the insight I needed. So, the mystery of the Green Men was settled on April 16, 2010. Thanks to the return of my favorite NHL broadcast duo...EJ & Don. :) Cool... I even learned about a skateboarding bull dog going by the NHL Store. You can't get that anywhere else. lol

Background: There are these two men who cover themselves in green. They reminded me of a faceless Spiderman, but in bright green. Whenever an opposing team member would go into the penalty box, these two guys would go up to the box's glass and try to cause a distraction. I can't wait to see them again. Lol Now that I know a little more about them...they're very entertaining.

A viewer just wrote in and mentioned that the Green Men originated from “It's Always Funny in Philadelphia”.

Gotta go, Don's reading an email. Lol It's just fantastic to see those two together.

Versus Color Announcers & NHL Playoffs...

It's great that the conflict between Versus, Comcast and DirecTV has been settled. Us DirecTV subscribers can now view Versus programming. It was in time for this 2010 seasons' hockey playoffs. Great timing. However...

Last night's (Wednesday, April 14, 2010) programming started out GREAT. “Doc” Emrick was the play-by-play announcer for the Pittsburgh V Ottawa game. Surprising game result(Penguins lost),but the announcing was simply superb.

Then, the Detroit Red Wings V Phoenix Coyotes game is getting ready to broadcast. It's going to be a great series, no doubt about it. Everything is in place and I settle in. The game starts...and so does the incessant jaw-flapping by the color announcer.

The game was a conversation between the two announcers with the game being a second-hand show. How tiring and so very...very....very...disappointing.

I pray to God this does not go on for the entire series. If the play-by-play announcer was left to do his job, he could provide an entertaining show.

VERSUS COLOR ANNOUNCERS.....Please, stop talking and wrecking our viewing pleasure. We are trying to watch our beloved hockey playoffs, not listen to your incessant verbiage. It is the hockey game that matters, not what you think.

NHL Records

Kudos to the Wings...The Detroit Red Wings have accumulated 100 points for the 10th year in a row when they defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets today, 4/09. Only time any NHL team has done this.

Kudos to the Hawks...for the first time in the history of their franchise, the Chicago Blackhawks have won 23 road games by defeating the Colorado Avalanche in Denver today. Having accumulated 111 points, the Hawks are tied with SJ Sharks.

Strange Feelings for Wings Fan

This has been the strangest season for me and my beloved Detroit Red Wings. For the first time in 17 years, there was concern about whether or not the team would make it into the playoffs. It was a totally bizarre feeling. :? At the same time, it has been very exciting. Since the 2010 Olympics, the Wings have given us some of the best hockey to watch. Tying goals in the last two seconds of the game, winning goals in the last .2 seconds of OT. Wow...It's been great.

It's just so unusual to look at the top 8 or 9-seeded teams and see Detroit in anything but the top 3. Having to be concerned about which team is up or down a few points is a trip. I found myself wanting to see NSH, CGY, LA and CO lose so that they do not knock my Wings out of contention. (Well, I have liked seeing CO lose since the late 80's..:) Some grudges and rivalries are hard to forget. :)) It has been a very bizarre regular season. Fun, but bizarre.

The players are overcoming injuries at just the right time. :) Let's hope it stays that way.
